ODESZA’s third studio album, A Moment Apart, came out on September 8, 2017. This album marks Philip’s second collaboration with the down-to-earth, Seattle-based electronic music duo. Philip scored and performed the strings for 3 of the tracks on the album: Line of Sight, Higher Ground, and Just A Memory. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
On the day the album dropped, ODESZA did a special live performance of 3 songs of the new album on KEXP featuring a string section, horn section, and singers. Watch it here.
“Seattle’s ODESZA—producers Catacombkid and BeachesBeaches—craft an ethereal fusion of future house and chillwave. This third album experiments with celestial textures and percussive elements, while some diverse and carefully recruited collaborators further elevate their futuristic sound. Naomi Wild’s heady vocals turn “Higher Ground” into glorious dream pop, the quietly euphoric “Across the Room” benefits from Leon Bridges’ easy soul, while “Late Night” doesn’t require a starry guest. A mature update on the pair’s early EDM wins, its hypnotic beat and surging hook is made for Balearic dance floors.”
